Monster Stand for Monster Duty!
First off, let me say this thing is built like a tank. Global Truss calls this a "medium-duty" crank stand that is rated for 220lbs, but compared to other products out there (excluding those huge units with outriggers) this would definitely qualify as a "heavy-duty" unit. It is easy to set up, has a ton of adjustments, and is constructed with heavy-duty all-metal components. I honestly don't know why the weight rating is so low, because this stand can easily handle double its weight rating, and each step has a lock pin point to keep it from slipping. Most likely, they have to rate it for stability at the maximum height with the maximum weight, and I can see how you would not want to overload it on a very windy day outside if you had it at maximum height. Normally, I would only have around 200lbs across the entire truss (roughly 100 pounds per stand), so I have no issue staying under the rated weight. The only downside to this stand is that because of its construction, it is very heavy for a lighting stand, and a bit longer when collapsed for transport too. In reality, however, that is a good thing as I don't want it swaying in the breeze; it just takes a little more muscle to move it in and out. Buy the Global Truss transport bags for these stands and you will be good to go. Bottom line is that I didn't want a cheap, lightweight stand to crank my truss up with, and needed the extra height this unit provides and it delivered in spades! If you can handle the additional size and weight that this unit brings with it, I promise you will be glad you bought it. No regrets here, and I would buy two more without hesitation if the need arises.
