Great Home Recorder!

Product was described as "used, but refurbished"...that at first in my mind opened the door to my receiving a sample someone had owned up to the original warranty period and then returned, either to a Tascam-approved dealer (like VMI) or back to Tascam, as I was prepared for. But, what I received from VMI was factory sealed with a single layer of machine-applied tape to the carton and inside all the packaging was as is from the factory and there were zero signs of fingerprint smudges on the unit - evidently a pristine factory-refurbished unit without any prior customer use.

Took a chance on this as a temporary stop-gap solution before funding a computer-driven addition to my hifi. Just wanted to make DD copies of my CD's, compilation discs, backups, etc, but knew I would not really be happy if the sound quality was sub par. I already happened to have on hand a lot of electronic noise reduction equipment in this system that I think helps with the sound, improving component grounding and cleaning up both the AC and the DC side of things, so maybe my results are not typical, but I was able to get all copies to sound not just very close to the originals, but absolutely 100% indistinguishable from the originals, no matter the musical material. Heck, I may just put off funding that computer gear after all.

Fairly easy to operate, although you probly will have to crack the manual open more than once, but I found it easy enough to learn everything I wanted to do with the unit. Well designed and even better execution of the design, better than any of my past recorders.

This was a great price for a great product. I've used it extensively for almost half the return period of 60 days and have yet to come across the first sign of any tickiness, retecence or operational instability that would not inspire the fullest confidence that the unit would return a very useful lifespan. Unit has not even gotten warmer than room temp when left on for a month straight.

Would I recommend this to a friend or family member? Yes
