Decent starter sub

I bought one just to have a spare cheap sub to toy with.

It's a little louder and cleaner than my sub costing twice as much but, does not hit as hard. You'll also need to mind the wattage rating and if you're going to use crossover bass boost, better be a couple hundred watts under the rated power.

I hit it with around 300 watts RMS and 30dB of boost at 60Hz. I had some light voice coil stink in a little under 15 minutes. Calculated that much dB boost with the given wattage at a single frequency is equivalent of about 1300 watts peak power only the signal peak is held constant at that level of boost so it may as well be RMS power.

I like the spring press terminals, VERY thick spider and the tinsel leads to the coil are sewn in. This is a VERY heavy sub for around 50 bucks! The magnet is no joke but the coil is only 2.5" so the power isn't great. Bigger coil means more flux lines threading it which ultimately means a lot more SPL out of the same wattage. Nice chrome job and the cone is very thick and rigid. Tonal quality is great. What it lacks in rigid, muffling boom it has in tonal vibrance.

If you have $250 to spend for your entire subwoofer package, a pair of these with the right amplifier and a massive enclosure will make for a killer budget system. Of course if you're used to sytems costing twice that or more, you won't think much of this speaker. These days people are spending $500 just on a single speaker so be realistic, this is a solid entry level budget speaker. 4 of these would still crush a single $500 dollar subwoofer.

Would I recommend this to a friend or family member? Yes
