excellent item works great can't beat the price
I automatically purchased the carburetor adjustment tool (do a google search)at the same time and was glad I did. Saw would stall every time. Once I adjusted the carb as per instructions found on a google search this saw runs great. Don't let the bad reviews of this saw fool you this is a great little saw.
Worked great after carb adjustment. Purchase a carburetor spline tool to adjust carb and it will run fine. ALL chainsaw carbs are not adjusted correctly at the factory for your area/ climate. Do a Google search. Cut down at least 10 trees so far. Will buy from again, great deal!
I have tried for 2 days to start this aggravating monster without success.
It's a good saw for small tree and limb work.It was simple to install bar and chain,it starts easily.I used it right after the snow storm on 30th of Oct.11,We had many downed branches.
I just finished a massive job with this saw. And wow did it perform. I had 5 fifty foot Italian Cypresses that needed to be removed and sawed into tiny pieces to fit in my and my neighbors green barrels. Anyway this is what I learned. First when I got the saw it wouldn't work at all. I read the manual about 15 times and tried to tune it, but this didn't work. I took it to my job and had the physical plant people work on it, took it home, and it worked for 30 minutes then died and would never re-start. I had to hire some workers to climb these cypresses and cut them down--they are 10 feet from my house and 15 feet from my neighbors-I'm sure not going to climb the tree with a chain saw in my hand! These guys told me the saw needed to be tuned and that they couldn't do it. Because I was going to save 750 by sawing up these trees myself, i took their advice. I took it to a professional chain saw service place. They told me a bunch of things-the saw can't legally be tuned by anyone but a service representative because of the EPA-I don't care about this--but they said that only a professional service person has the tool to do this--I sort of doubt this, but what the heck. Next they told me the gas and additive I had in the saw were crap and to use a very high grade gasoline and to use a better additive-Stihl HP ultra. They tuned the saw for 40. They told me the pamphlet gives crap directions on how to start the saw. Do not follow them. this is what they told me. Only use the full choke--Choke pulled out all the way when the engine is cold. To start a cold saw:1) prime 3 times 2) turn saw on 3) put the brake on 4) pull choke out all the way 5) pull the starter cord until you hear a click or pop (I could hear this when he pulled the saw, but I never can hear it when I pull; frankly I'm not very good at pulling the starting cord; I just pull the cord 3 or 4 times and hope the pop has occured --this pop or click is something mechanical engaging inside the saw 6) as soon as you hear the pop push the choke in all the way (the half setting apparently is crap) 7) to start pull the cord SUPER briskly. It should just snap out of your hand at the end (they watched me try to start it and were laughing cuz they said I was way too wimpy, but I got better). You really do have to pull the cord briskly and brace the saw. It should start within about two pulls. If it floods which it hasn't done since i got these instructions you-unscrew the three top screws; pull off the electrical connection to the spark plug; unscrew the spark plug all the way; with the spark plug completely removed pull the cord repeatedly until the chamber empties of fuel; rescrew in the spark plug.
if the saw is warm to start it you 1) put the choke in all the way 2) give one or two squirts from the prime 3) put the chain brake on 4) pull the cord super briskly. I hope this helps this saw is great, but it sure is a pain in the butt when it won't start and you keep trying different things for hours. The forty extra bucks was well worth it.
Lightweight, easy reach for what I'm useing it for, easy to maintain, accessability to fill oil and gas.
I have yet to have run for any length of time, I'm trying to figure out if I'm doing something wrong, or the machine is just that way, I have not bought a carb adjustment tool
This item looks near mint, except some scratches on the sides. This saw is not so heavy, yet powerful. The engine dies on full throttle..needs carb adj (That's why i did not give a full 5 stars) . I use this to cut 4X4 and 4X6 treated lumber. no problems, yet
P.S: Use Synthetic 2 stroke oil and it will last forever.
Powerful little chain saw. Good for backyard projects. Very pleased except the product did not come with a new chain and had to immediately replace the chain.
its Great
I had been looking for a reasonably priced gas chainsaw to suppliment the electric unit we had to help clear storm debris from Hurricane Irene. I had shopped quite a bit online and found that VM had the best price by far of any vendor out there, so I placed an order. The saw arrived 4 days after placing the order, which is good- however, the saw arrived without the oil reservior cap and the chain/bar oil. Since the saw arrived on a Holiday weekend, I had no way to contact anyone at VM to inquire on spare parts. I had to do a bit of calling and running around to different hardware stores before finally finding parts to make the saw operable. I then sent an email to VM to file my concerns. They did respond the same day, and sent me a small refund a few days later. As far as the saw goes...
For a refurbed product, I was pretty impressed with the condition of the saw and its operation. It isnt something I would buy if I needed to use it on a daily basis; its just not that well-made. However, for the occasional use, I find it perfect for my needs! It did have some issues holding an idle, but, that went away after cutting a few 2"-3" diameter tree limbs and got the saw good and warm. Overall, I would have given this purchase 5 stars if it wasnt for the fact that I had to hunt down missing parts to make the saw operable. I did let Customer Service know about this issue- I hope that, going forward, they check the saws before they ship them out to customers to insure they are complete, which I was assured would happen going forward. If they can send customers a COMPLETE unit, this is a GREAT buy!!
